I'm not faulting him for breaking. Many did. I can't say that I wouldn't break under torture. But I think that the guilt remaining from that experience is not only behind his well documented emotional instability, but also behind his tendency to overcompensate for his own past failings by choosing the most aggressive response, namely war.
