Humans are a heard species, whose independent thinking has been generally less a priority than following leaders. Safety in numbers, security in a group/tribe, fear of the unknown and others, and a sense of belonging too often override truth and the pursuit of reason.

It's true, we are social beings. This tends to form a groupthink mentality in respective groups of people. Most of us can't find serenity in solitude, nor are we inclined towards introspection. We want entertainment. This largely includes sports, religion, and TV, but booze and drugs can also serve as entertainment. Thus only the immediate company and surroundings have relevance. This is only getting worse. Social media and empty calorie entertainment leaves little time for learning and life/social experiences.

For years America has stood firmly on the principal that "No one is above the law." This has been correctly understood in the context as meaning "if you can prove" the wrongdoing. Saying it, is not proof. Yelling it, is not proof. In a court of law, you need actual evidence.
That means sometimes the guilty will go free for lack of evidence. But it also helps to make sure the innocent are usually not found guilty. Is it perfect? Nope, but it's the best we've got in a "innocent until proven guilty" world. And I hope everyone would agree, it's way better than the Napoleonic era of "guilty until proven innocent."
The SCOTUS has, without any basis in the Constitution [I'll wait for anyone to show me the words] created a right, whole cloth, for our presidents to now act with impunity and immunity for political gain, personal gain and more.

And he is proposing that the commission that oversees elections, currently independent and widely hailed as bringing Mexico real democracy, also be elected as opposed to appointed.
This will mean the two most important government institutions in Mexico, will become partisan and potentially malleable with drug money, or political pressure.
Can the US speak into that situation? Not anymore. Because the recent SCOTUS case has undermined our ability to defend democracy on the international stage, even if it's our neighbor. In fact, when Ambassador Salazar voiced just "some concern", we were basically told to shut up and the official relationship between the countries paused.
Mexico is our biggest trading partner. The recent SCOTUS decision is harming our ability to help defend democracy on our door step.
What is amazing is that both Trump and Obrador of Mexico are two sides of the same coin. Trump stands to the right and Obrador to the left. But both, if we are to believe their statements, think a president, by virtue of his or her election, has, or should have the right to do whatever they want, because of their election.
This was never true of course, but our system was always built on honor and a belief that our president would always put country above personal gain or politics.
Apparently that’s no longer true here, and we are literally now exporting that belief to other countries.

I'm not sure Obrador and Trump are two sides of the same coin. Trump is a fascist who tried to violently overturn our election. Trump and his party stole a Supreme Court seat and forced another through during an election.
The consequences of this corrupt and partisan Court are horrifying. Dictatorial presidential immunity and judicial permission to strong arm the DOJ into sham investigations of elections and opponents may as well mark the termination of our democratic republic.
I might be more sympathetic to democratically electing judges with term limits and an enforceable code of ethics.
I think it's far more democratic than allowing a criminal who lost the popular vote to fill the bench with fellow authoritarians.
And I also think Obrador is only proposing the judicial reform, not mandating it. If he resorts to violence to stay in power, then I'll agree he and Trump are two sides of the same coin.

Biden is seen as a hero for preventing Trump's second term. He stepped down when he realized Kamala had a better chance of stopping Trump this year. He put the country above his personal ambitions. That may not be heroic, but he slowed our slide into white nationalist fascism. He deserves credit for that.
We need to address the reasons why the country is in a mess. Trump is THE primary reason for our current mess and imperiled democracy. The damage he's done will last beyond my lifetime. The border will stay a mess because HE ordered a bipartisan border bill to be KILLED. It is on him now.
The country is still in a mess because of division, racism, bigotry, inequality of opportunity, and hate. It is a mess because public education is being gutted. It is a mess because the economic elites call the shots. It's in a mess because Reagan attacked unions, killed the fairness doctrine, and enabled Rupert Murdoch's far Right propaganda media empire and radical right talk radio to dominate the airwaves.

She has said, as has Biden, that America stands strong with Israel and our relationship is unbroken, unshakeable. We currently, under the Biden Admin, provide over $300 billion annually in aid to Israel. And since Oct 7 the US has made over 100 military aid transfers to Israel also. She has no bigger friend in the world. And both Biden and Harris have repeatedly affirmed this.
No presidential admin has been as generous with weapons and aid to Israel.

As it regards the Palestinians, Harris and Biden both, have called for a two state solution and have decried the indiscriminate bombing of schools, hospitals and places where kids and children live. Both have called on Hamas to end terrorism, have called for a mutual cease fire and said Hamas must reform, denounce terrorism and publicly affirm the right of Israel to exist.
Both Harris and Biden have drawn fire from some in the Dem coalition for being too harsh towards Hamas, but they have stood firm.
If there are MAGA ppl who do not know these facts, or where Harris and Biden stand on Israel, it must be willful ignorance.
The same is true for Ukraine. Harris, Biden, the Dems and many members of the GOP do not believe Putin and Russia should be able to invade a sovereign democracy, take territory and annex it. You yourself may, but America believes, as we have since WW II that the actions of Russia right now, like the actions of Germany in the 1930's and 1940's, hurt the cause of world peace in general and in Europe specifically.
They both believe, as has America since WW II, that when the US stands strong with Europe, world peace is easier to keep, thus keeping financial markets stable around the globe. Something that is good for Americans like you and me.
